fmhm 4th assignment

1]a]derive darcy-weisbach equation for loss of haed in apipe.
b]two tanks are connected by a 300mm daimeter 1000m long pipe. find the rate of flow if the difference of water level in the tank is 10m. take 4f=0.04 and ignore minor losses.
2] a pipeline ABC 180m long is laid on a upward slope of 1 in 60. the length of portion AB is 90m and its diameter is 0.15M.at B the pipe section suddenly enlarges to 0.30m diameter and remains so for the remainder of its length BC,90m. a flow of 50 liters per second is pumped into the pipe at its lower end A and is discharged at the upper end C into a closed tank. the pressure at the supply end A is 137.34kN/(m power 2). sketch
a] the total energy line.
b]the hydraulic gradient line and also find the pressure at discharge end C. take f=0.02 in hf=fl(Vpower2)/2gD.
3]a]explain reynolds experiment and the significance of critical velocity.
b]a single pipe 400mm in diameter and 400m long conveys water at the rate of 0.5(m cube)/sec. find the increse in discharge if another pipe of 200m long 200m diameter is joined parallel with the existing pipe over half of its lenght.Take friction factor 4f=0.04.
4]a]how the loss of energy at the entrance to the pipe and exit from the pipe is to be determined?
b]a horizontal pipeline 50m long is connected to a water tank at one end and discharges freely into the atmosphere at the other end. for the first 30m of its length from the tank, the pipe is 100mm diameter and its diameter suddenly enlarged to 200mm. the height of the water level in the tank is 10m above the center of the pipe . diameter the rate of flow. take 4f=0.04 for both sections of the pipe and consider minor losses.
5]a]what do you mean by 'pipes in series' and 'pipes in parallel'? how the loss of head is to be determined?
b]a pipeline 0.25m in diameter and 1600m long has a slope of 1 in 200 for the first 800m and 1 in the 100 for the next 800m. the pressure at upper end of the pipeline is 120KN/(m power 2).and at the lower end is 60 kN/(m power 2). taking 4f=0.04,determine discharge through the pipe.
6]a]list of minor losses. explain the reason why they are called minor losses?
b]two pipes X and Y are connected in parallel between two points. pipe X is 150m long and has a daimeter of 15cm. pipe Y is 100m long and has a diameter of 12cm both the pipes have the same friction factor of 0.018 .if a discharge of 50lit/sec of water is to flow in two pipe lines, what will be the daischarge in individual pipes.
7]a]explain when the following will converge, diverge and remain parallel:
i]hydraulic gradient line  ii]total energy line.
d]two pipes A and B with following details are connected in parallel between two points:
      PIPE         DIAMETER(cm)          LENGTH(m)          f
        A                  12                           1000              0.032
        B                  18                            800               0.028
